Vlad asks:
Should one start a blog using his own name or should he seek a general, more describing domain name? In other words, do you’re thinking that that DanielScocco.com could have had the identical success as DailyBlogTips.com when writing about blogging? To increase this query to other fields, do you’re thinking that a author, a historian etc, should brand his name or arrange a blog using a selected domain name?
Quite a controversial topic, as there are people sitting on either side of the fence here.
In my view the reply is connected to the goals that you could have on your blog. Let me break down the several scenarios:
Scenario 1: You must start a private blog to speak about whatever involves your mind, update family and friends about your endeavors and so forth.
Ideal domain name: Either YourName.com or every other cool domain that you just find and like. Since we’re talking a couple of personal blog, there aren’t any rules here. Go together with whatever you want best.
Scenario 2: You must start a blog to advertise your personal brand or your services. This might include writers, consultants, painters, lawyers and so forth.
Ideal domain name: YourName.com. Take into accout that on this scenario I’m not talking about professionals who want to advertise their corporations. For those a website with the name of the corporate is clearly preferred. I’m talking about individuals who generate income because of their personal brands, like Seth Godin.
Scenario 3: You must start a blog on a selected area of interest and make it a well-liked site. It is advisable to monetize it in the long run as well, either with promoting, online marketing or by selling your personal services and products.
Ideal domain name: Something descriptive, brandable, easy to spell, easy to recollect and with a .com extension.
So to reply your initial query, I don’t think that DanielScocco.com would’ve been as successful as DailyBlogTips.com for this blog.
What you guys think though? Be at liberty to reply Vlad’s query along with your own tackle the difficulty.
