The good days are back, as domain sales at Escrow.com in Q1 2023 matched Q1 2022.
We already knew that Escrow.com saw a rebound in its business last quarter. Now, the company has quantified the domain portion of that upswing.
In its just-released Q1 Domain Investment Index (pdf), the company reported that it handled $129.8 million worth of domain transactions last quarter. That’s up 62% from Q4 2022, when it handled just $80.3 million. It’s essentially even with what the company reported in Q1 2022.
The company credits the return of large deals for part of the upswing. That includes the $10M+ deal for chat.com. It’s possible that the company handled a second transaction for that domain in Q2.
Escrow.com said it handled about $1 million in .ai transactions in Q1, a record (see chart). And AI-related domains in other extensions are certainly driving volume, such as the chat.com deal.
The median transaction in Q1 for domains without content was $4,000.
